The String Quartet No. 4 was written between 1798 and 1800 and published in 1801, dedicated to Joseph Franz von Lobkowitz.

Triptych
Nicola LeFanu (b.1947)
Triptych is written for baritone and chamber orchestra. It is a setting of three poems by Rowan Williams (‘A view’, and ‘What is Man’).

The Symphony No. 85 in B♭ major, is the fourth of the six Paris symphonies (numbers 82–87) written by Joseph Haydn. It is popularly known as La Reine (The Queen).

String Quartet in D Minor KV421
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)

This is the second of the Quartets dedicated to Haydn and the only one of the set in a minor key. It is believed to have been completed in 1783, while his wife Constanze Mozart was in labour with her first child Raimund. Constanze stated that the rising string figures in the second movement corresponded to her cries from the other room.

The String Quartet No. 9 in C major, Op. 59, No. 3, was written by Ludwig van Beethoven and published in 1808. This work is the third of three of his "Razumovsky" cycle of string quartets and is a product of his "middle" period.

This short and enigmatic work presents in a form how Beethoven was becoming ready to challenge and even subvert the sonata structures he inherited from composers such as Haydn and Mozart.

Sergei Rachmaninoff's Sonata in g minor for Cello and Piano, Op. 19 was completed in November 1901 and published a year later.

The lament starts with a very simple melody which, passing through moments of grief, memory and happiness, becomes gradually more ornate and complex, leading to a climatic and turbulent close.

Prelude and Fugue in Eb minor from Book 2 of the Well-Tempered Clavier, BWV

The Well-Tempered Clavier, BWV, is a collection of two sets of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys, composed for solo keyboard. The two major primary sources for the second book of Preludes and Fugues are the "London Original" (LO) manuscript, dated between 1739 and 1742.

The Piano Sonata No. 6 in F major, Op. 10, No. 2, composed between 1796 and 1798. Thus, like the other two Opus 10, the sonata is dedicated to Anna Margaret von Braun.

Robert Schumann (1810-1856)
Toccata in C major, Op. 7 by Robert Schumann, completed in 1830 and revised in 1833. The piece is in sonata allegro form. It was referred by Schumann as the "hardest piece ever written".

This is a dramatic march, which ends this musical composition, that étude contains counterpoint, verdant harmonies, and a wide range of musical colours and textures.
